Week 28
How to Promote Yourself as an Illustrator
with Daniel Fishel
In this week's stream, we chat with Queens-based illustrator and educator Daniel Fishel on the in's and out's of self-promotion as an illustrator! We covered Daniel's personal story in getting started as an illustrator, and discussed various passive, direct, and indirect strategies to promoting yourself. Here's some examples of each category:

- Passive: think planting long-term seeds in the ground — eg. maintaining an up-to-date website to build your SEO.

- Direct: sending out postcards to art directors, cold or warm emails to dream clients, etc.

- Indirect: consistently sharing work to your social media channels and community!

Daniel mentored me in the year after I quit my corporate job in order to become a freelance illustrator. His guidance on the topic of promoting yourself — getting yourself in the door — was so invaluable in the beginning. Highly recommend for some specific, tangible tips on getting started and shooting your shot!
