Adobe asked me to create two reels to showcase using Illustrator as an artist. I use Illustrator almost every day, so it already is a natural part of my workflow.

I wanted to go big and explore using both digital and analog mediums! So, I created an animated ceramic moon jar and a woodcut shelf using Illustrator as my starting point.

Animated cat vase
For the first piece, I created an animated ceramic moon jar that features a running cat when you rotate it — it's a zoetrope! I used Illustrator to draw out the 8-frame animation and prepare the final shapes that I printed out as stencils. I then applied the stencils to my moon jar (which I also made, in part with Illustrator), and painstakingly hand-painted each cat on with underglaze. Then, I glazed and fired my piece.
Thanks to April for being my muse!
Even though the sponsorship was only for the above reel, I also made a several reels to tell the full story behind this project, to give proper context! This process was experimental and complex, spanning ceramics and 3d modeling (slipcasting), painting, and utilizing Illustrator - so I wanted to do justice to the whole stack.

Woodcut tiger shelf
For my second piece, I used Illustrator to design and plan out a woodcut tiger shelf. Once I got the tiger drawn out in Illustrator, I had it cut out of wood before painting and assembling it together. Using the table saw, I also cut a small ledge with a notched lip, to be able to display prints, photographs, and random trinkets neatly on it. Finally, I created some small ceramic charms and attached them to the bottom of the ledge, for whimsy~*.
